The Brief

My team partnered with Circle K’s global team to create a strategic design system to support their food pilot initiative to test in-stores.

Scope of Work

Create a design system to test in various stores, so by the end of this design study the work will be packaged in an easy to understood branded tool kit for future rollout

Goal

  • Design a system resulting in a new way to talk to the Circle K shopper

  • Introduce innovative POP ideas

  • The work will create disruption in the shopper’s journey in strategic ways

Measuring Success

  • Increased foot traffic in stores featuring the new imagery

  • Increased sales of the menu items featured and/or of the food service areas in general

  • Improved perception the consumers have of the store

Conceptualizing the Campaign

Highlighting the existing art, I introduced a curved shape to create appeal and impact. Within the shape, the “Fresh food, fast” tagline draws the attention of the viewer while the oversized imagery highlights the new array of food offerings. Whether forecourt or in-store, this conceptual package will pique interest and create the necessary impact.

Testing & Iterations

We did a test store and received great feedback, where the campaign was rolled out to several Circle K business units in the United States. Each business unit had small changes here and there that best suited their customers but overall it was a success.

Insights

We went through several iterations with the Global team and though the ask was to be disruptive and impactful, maintaining a sense of the brand was key. So essentially we can be impactful, but not too much as to stray too far from home.

Takeaways:

The experience was a fun challenge. The collaboration between my team and the global team sealed a long standing partnership. And as a partner, there'll be some trials and errors along the way, until you come to a happy medium. So keeping a keen sense of the brand integrity while knowing how far to push out of those boundaries was my takeaway.
